On January 31st, Meridian juniors presented a magical Fairytale Dance for K – 5th grade, full of wonder and excitement! Kids were able to enjoy lots of fun activities with their parents and friends, creating a unique experience from Meridian to cherish.
It took place in the middle school cafe, everything was beaming with fantastical elements, flowy dresses and fairy wings, castles and enchanted forests, what could be better? Some of the fun activities that took place in this fairytale dance included bracelet making, princess training, crown making, wand making, balloon animals, face painting, house building, photo booths, obstacle courses, pin the tail, and of course, dancing on the dance floor!
Addison Johnson, a 5th grader says “ My favorite part of the fairytale dance was the bracelet making station and the group circle dance!”
This fairytale dance was important for K-5th because there are so many distractions these days like social media and trends that damage their mental health. These can cause them to foster toxic comparisons, and overall growth, but having this dance allowed them to fully expand their creativity and imagination, and helped them connect with friends and their parents.
Emma Turner, a junior says “ I really liked the booth I was in charge of, which was wand making. The fairytale dance was important to me because it was fun, and I sat there helping kids make wands!”
This fairytale dance is also important to juniors because it brings back the nostalgia of being a kid, it brings a sense of freedom from ‘adult responsibilities’ like driving, homework, and jobs. This dance also helped raise money for the juniors senior trip next year!
Alexis Gachomo, a junior and part of class council says “ We have been working really hard on this fairytale dance for months, and it was beautiful to finally see it flourish.”
Overall, the kids and parents enjoyed such a connecting experience at this dance with meridian, making long lasting memories with loved ones, and enjoying the adventure the dance held. This dance helped foster creativity, and helped promote social interaction through a structured, theme based environment. I am grateful I was able to attend this fairytale dance and contribute to such a fun experience!
