Meridian isn’t the only school students have pride for and College Shirt Day is their time to show it.
College shirt day is a celebration occurring on the last Wednesday of each month. Students are allowed to wear memorabilia from their favorite college. A wide variety of schools are represented; ranging from a couple of hours away, nationwide, military academies, and even international schools have been displayed.
“I wear the Longhorn [UT] shirt because I love the college!” 11th grader Joellen Anyelwisye reflects.
Nicholas Manuzack, or Mr. Man as he is known to his students, is the high school counselor for Meridian and is in charge of coordinating this special event.
“I enjoy seeing all of the different colleges that students represent, especially when students wear a random school that no one has represented before!” Mr. Man remarks when asked about his favorite part of College Shirt Day.
It isn’t only the students who participate, faculty and staff take part by representing their alma maters with some choosing to showcase where their kids go to college.
College Shirt Day is the opportunity for Lions to share their identity with others, while promoting higher education, demonstrating a part of themself through their clothing that can lead to new friendships. What started as a small idea has grown and morphed into a day all Lions look forward to!
So, set your reminders for the end of each month, that way you can join the faculty and students of Meridian in celebrating your favorite college.
