The Meridian School’s Girls Varsity soccer team wrapped up an unforgettable season filled with hard work, determination, and strong team chemistry. Despite facing challenges throughout the year, the team continued to improve and grow together, eventually making it all the way to the second round of playoffs and reaching the semifinals.
One of the biggest strengths of the team this season was the bond the players built with one another. Many of the girls had never played soccer before, but through encouragement and teamwork, they were able to push each other to succeed. Haylee Flores, a sophomore, explained that the team always stayed supportive during difficult games by cheering each other on and reminding everyone to “ignore the score and push through because you never know the final outcome.”
The season was not without its obstacles. According to sophomore Audrina Baham, one of the toughest moments came during the first game against Founders, where the team had to play in pouring rain while dealing with injuries and players being forced out of position. Even through difficult situations like that, the team continued to show resilience and passion on the field.
Several memorable moments stood out to players throughout the season. Haylee shared that her favorite memory was the first playoff game when the team wore matching braids and glitter in their hair. She said it brought everyone closer together and made the experience more fun and exciting. Players also mentioned how practices became enjoyable because of the friendships they built and the positive energy everyone brought to the team.
The team’s chemistry played a major role in their success. Audrina described the environment as positive and supportive, with everyone communicating well and genuinely caring about one another. Jane Whitaker, junior, said her biggest motivation throughout the season was making the seniors’ final year special. She also credited teammate Elisa for inspiring the team by always giving 100 percent effort and helping others whenever needed.
Jane summarized the season as “a group of hardworking girls who worked together to have fun and win.” As the season comes to an end, the players hope future teammates continue the same supportive environment and strong work ethic that helped make this season successful. With lasting memories, stronger friendships, and valuable lessons learned, the Meridian girls soccer team has plenty to be proud of this year.
