Shiny red shoes, a furry main, a tin heart, a clumsy pile of straws, and an original classic. Meridian is holding another fantastic musical this year: The Wizard Of Oz! This exciting musical is being performed on April 23rd, April 24th, and April 25th, look on the meridian website for more information!
The Wizard of Oz is a movie that was produced on August 25, 1939 by Metro – Goldwyn Mayor. This musical is about a farm girl from Kansas named Dorothy, who gets magically transported by a tornado to the magical land of Oz. While trying to find a way home, she makes a couple friends on the way who are also trying to find something, and together they stroll off to meet the wonderful wizard of Oz for help.
Elizabeth Flantines, junior who will be going to the musical mentions “I am really excited to see the production elements of the musical and I think it’s going to be a really cool experience!”
The theater crew including Mrs. Crowl have been very involved in the production and have been working very hard this year to bring this play to life, creating and practicing using props, sounds, lighting, and of course acting! This musical isn’t like other musicals either, and that’s because the Wizard of Oz was Mrs.Crowl’s favorite movie when she was little!
Emma Turner, a Junior and a part of the Technical theater class states “It was really fun to have our own artistic interpretation of things, because in our tech theater class we had the opportunity to have complete artistic freedom as long as it went with the theme of the musical.”
Overall, this play will be a once in a lifetime opportunity, it will be as exciting as the first time you watched the Wizard of Oz, and all of the colors came to life! So buy that ticket now and don’t miss out on a magical experience!
