Ms.Baker, a beloved and respected member of the Meridian community, teaches DP science here at Meridian World School.
Joining the community by what she could call fate, saying that “Meridian randomly popped up on my FaceBook feed” when she was searching for an IB school in warm US states. Meeting with Ms.Holcombe and other faculty, Mrs.Baker deemed Meridian a perfect learning and teaching environment for her and her two sons.
Mrs.Baker instantly became a perfect fit for the school, as she connected with her students immediately. One of her favorite memories with the students was pulling the Chemistry Shower on the seniors after they finished writing their IBDP Chemistry World Exams.
Not to mention that Meridian is an International school, Ms. Baker has teaching experience from all over the world, Canada, England, Tanzania, South Africa, and Dubai. It would only make sense for her favorite celebration/day held at Meridian is International Day and the parade that is held! She shares that “I love being part of a diverse community that celebrates our backgrounds.”
Ms. Baker shares how she loves learning and sharing what she knows, passing it on to her students. “Being able to form relationships with colleagues and students that grow all of us and contribute to a life-long love of Science” is what drove her to teaching. Hoping that through her work, her class is inspired to be kind, be resourceful, and not to be afraid to make mistakes. “Be balanced and make good choices!”
With Chemistry being her favorite class to teach, and the students nearing adulthood, she finds helping set them on the right path and supporting them while they set goals for the near future incredibly rewarding. She admits that her favorite part in her classes is “Laughing with my students and watching them achieve their goals.”
Oye Ologun, a 10th grader in Ms. Baker’s physics, shares her favorite moment in physics as the Criterion D presentations. Enjoying another group’s video editing and engaging lesson, as well as the course on “displacement and distance at the beginning of Semester 1,” is the most enjoyable part of Ms.Baker’s class for her so far. Ologun describes Baker’s class as fun and she’s really good at helping them “absorb and understand important concepts while also making sure we have fun in the class and approach the environments around us with physics in mind.”
The Meridian community is so grateful to have such an amazing teacher like Ms. Baker. Her enthusiastic teachings, lasting memories made in class, and passionate vibe, help to shape the wonderful teacher she is to us here at Meridian.
