Every year at Meridian, the highly anticipated Senior Lock-in brings the senior class together for a memorable night. On a Friday evening, seniors spend the entire night at school, from 7 PM to 7 AM, playing games, having fun, and letting loose.
This event allows seniors to create lasting memories in the school where many have spent their entire academic journey. “Being at Meridian since kindergarten makes the senior lock-in feel so special. It’s like everything has come full circle,” shared Lily Castro, a senior at Meridian.
The lock-in fosters camaraderie among the senior class with activities like midnight dodgeball, hide-and-seek in the dark, and racing around the school on PE scooters. These activities help break down social barriers between different friend groups, bringing everyone closer together before graduation.
Ms. Holcombe, the Diploma Program Principal, shared her thoughts on the event: “Just seeing students enjoy themselves, take a break from work, and be at school without the pressure of assignments is my favorite part of the senior lock-in.” For seniors, who often face the immense stress of the Extended Essay (EE), Internal Assessments (IAs), and Individual Orals (IOs), the lock-in offers a much-needed opportunity to relax and enjoy their final year.
The senior lock-in has become an increasingly popular tradition that many students eagerly anticipate throughout high school. “Lock-ins are really fun, but also, like, really crazy,” said Kate Kellogg, another senior at Meridian. Spending the entire night at school allows students to strengthen bonds, make memories, and appreciate their school community in a unique way.
