Each year, Meridian’s senior class has the opportunity to travel internationally and experience a new country with their peers. The Class of 2025’s destination? A remarkable tropical paradise: Costa Rica.
Many schools don’t get the chance to offer this type of experience, but Meridian’s small class sizes make it possible for seniors to choose where they want to travel for a week during spring break. This year, the group unanimously decided on Costa Rica, where they spent nine days—two of which were dedicated to travel.
The itinerary was packed with exciting activities, including canoeing, kayaking, hiking, visiting beaches and hot springs, and more. Traveling from coast to coast, students were able to witness the breathtaking natural beauty and biodiversity that Costa Rica is known for.
Lauren Ramert, a senior who took part in the trip, shared some of her favorite memories:
“I got to hang out with my friends and go on adventures with them, like ziplining and white water rafting.”
She added, “It was way more active than I thought it was going to be. It felt like we had no rest, but that was really fun because we got to do so much and explore the entire country.”
The seniors weren’t the only ones who got to experience Costa Rica—several Meridian staff members joined them as chaperones, participating in many of the same adventures.
Mrs. Salazar, Meridian’s MYP principal and one of the trip chaperones, reflected on what made the trip special:
“I liked seeing the culture in Tortuguero… we got to see what you’d imagine it’s like on TV,” she said. “There were monkeys roaming about, kids playing soccer, people sitting outside on their porches… just the culture itself, it’s pretty cool.”
She also emphasized the value of the senior trip:
“I think it opens everyone’s eyes to what the world is really like in other places. You learn about it in school, but to get to see it in action is pretty cool.”
The senior trip continues to be one of the most beloved and long-awaited traditions at Meridian, offering students not just an unforgettable adventure, but a broader perspective of the world. We can’t wait to see where future classes will go!
