Meridian’s annual Holiday Fun Week is just around the corner, kicking off a festive celebration from December 12th to December 19th. It is packed with themed days such as “Cocoa, Cookies, and Pajamas,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Holiday Accessories,” “Ugly Sweaters,” “College Shirts & Plaid,” and finally, “Pajamas!”
December 12: Cocoa, Cookies, and Pajamas
The festivities begin with “DP Hot Cocoa and Cookie Decorating” in the Mays Cafeteria for 11th and 12th-grade students during advisory. To set the tone for the holidays at Meridian, students arrive in their coziest pajamas, embracing the holiday spirit while indulging in sweet treats.
December 13: Santa Claus Comes to Meridian
A unique tradition takes center stage as Mrs. Holcombe, dressed as the Grinch, along with Ms. Riley and Mr. Manuzak, portraying Santa Claus, make their rounds throughout the school. Armed with candy canes and cookies, this dynamic trio spreads joy to teachers and students alike.
December 16: Holiday Accessory Day
The holiday spirit continues as students in grades K-12 unleash their festive creativity with accessories. This day marks the start of the Christmas dress-up, with students decked from head to toe in cozy socks, Santa hats, reindeer antlers, fluffy blankets, and even slippers.
December 17: Ugly Holiday Sweater Day
The Christmas Fun Week continues with one of the most beloved traditions: Ugly Sweater Day. It’s the chance for students to come to school wearing the boldest, brightest, and most creative sweater they can find (or make). Whether it’s covered in glitter, jingle bells, or lit up with LEDs, this is the moment to let your imagination run wild. Don’t forget, there’s also an Ugliest Sweater Contest!
December 18: College & Plaid Day
This day is about school pride as students wear their college shirts to represent their future or favorite schools. Another option is to keep it stylish and festive by rocking a classic plaid shirt instead.
December 19: Pajama Day
What better way to wrap up Holiday Fun Week than with Pajama Day? It’s a day of relaxation, comfort, and cozy vibes as Meridian prepares for a well-deserved break. Students can come to school in their comfiest pajamas and fuzzy slippers to enjoy a laid-back day filled with holiday spirit.
Why Do We Celebrate Holiday Fun Week?
According to Principal Mrs. Holcombe, who shared her thoughts on the event, “We have this tradition at Meridian to lighten the mood during stressful times with exams. It’s a way to bring joy and unity to our community.”
Students are still required to adhere to the dress code even during Ugly Sweater Day. “Just make wise decisions and avoid anything inappropriate. We want to ensure we can continue this tradition every year,” stated Holcombe.
She even encouraged students to get creative and make their own ugly sweaters instead of buying them, to keep costs low and make the experience more meaningful.
Holiday Fun Week is a time for students and staff to connect, celebrate, and embrace the joy of the season. Let’s make it memorable by participating responsibly and enthusiastically!
