With the school year in full swing, senior privileges are abundant, some of those privileges include Meridian traditions.
For many years, this tradition has been especially prominent in Texas. It is one of the traditions that seniors have that truly gets them into the senior spirit. Mrs.Riley said, “ Even though we’re not a traditional ISD, we want kids to have these experiences”.
This tradition has been an essential part of school pride and the community, especially here at Meridian, since most of these students have been in school together since kindergarten. It allows students to flex their creative muscles and celebrate the beginning of senior year together.
Many students are painting their spots this year. Each has original ideas ranging from shapes, TV shows, and landscapes. Each spot that gets painted allows Meridian seniors to gain more camaraderie as their last year of school together gets rolling. Many of these seniors have been thinking about this moment for many years, so now that it is here the excitement is high.
Amaya Levya mentioned, “I’m excited to paint my parking spot. This has been something that I’ve been looking forward to for many years, and I’m so glad I get the opportunity to paint it”. This tradition is a right of passage for most seniors. Over the years, students have painted many impressive spots. Mrs. Riley shared, “I really love it when two or three spots have a theme and flow together. Those are neat”. The places that people paint help to give a little insight into each student’s creativity at Meridian.
Meridian prides itself on its creative students and the opportunities it provides each student to allow their creativity to grow. The painting of the parking spots is one of the most memorable for the seniors in their last year of high school. Which honestly makes the experience that much more special.
