School spirit is at an all-time high as Meridian’s first major event of the 2024-2025 school year approaches—Homecoming. Students in grades 9-12 are eager to attend, especially the freshmen, who will be experiencing their first-ever high school dance.
“I’m excited to see what actual Homecoming is like since I’m a freshman and I’ve never done it before,” said Naomi Rubio, a freshman at Meridian.
Freshmen aren’t the only ones excited—those involved in planning the dance are thrilled as well. Erin Foster, a parent of three Meridian students and the lead dance planner for the second consecutive year, shared her enthusiasm for the event.
“Planning for this year’s Homecoming started pretty much right after last year’s dance. It’s a lot of hard work, but it’s worth it when you see students enjoying themselves, playing the casino games, dancing, and participating in all the other activities,” she said, offering a glimpse behind the scenes of the event’s preparations.
This year’s Homecoming is already setting records, with over 300 students expected to attend—a milestone for Meridian. The theme, “Casino Royale,” is a major draw.
“I feel like no matter the theme, I’m going to like it, and it’s going to be fun,” said sophomore Lucas Cunha, who attended last year’s dance.
While the theme may be common, many students feel Meridian brings it to life in a unique way, offering a variety of poker tables and games that appeal to all students.
The casino games are a particular highlight, offering rewards like gift cards and free dress days.
“Who doesn’t want a free gift card to their favorite restaurant or a free dress day?” asked one enthusiastic student.
Freshmen, in particular, are excited for their first chance to win prizes. “It sounds really fun,” shared Naomi Rubio.
Whether it’s the raffle, games, or the opportunity to make memories with friends, Homecoming has generated a lot of excitement. With Erin Foster leading the way and help from dedicated student volunteers, there’s no doubt this year’s dance will live up to the high expectations set by previous years, becoming a night to remember.
