Homecoming Masquerade

Last weekend, the Mays Café was transformed into a dazzling venue that echoed the grandeur of a 17th-century masquerade. With the air buzzing with excitement, Meridian students entered the space reimagined through the dedication of our talented volunteer decorating crew, who meticulously crafted an ambiance that was both sophisticated and classy.

The main attraction of our 2025 Homecoming was definitely the dance floor, which wouldn’t have been half as entertaining without our expert DJ. His curated playlist and the fun requests sent in by the attendees set the tone for a night filled with dancing, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

“I think everyone knows each other better, and while the dance was similar to last year’s, this time it was a bit more fun because everyone was together,” comments Ella McNutt, a sophomore. “I think this year everyone was chill and just wanted to have fun. That is what made it better.”

As the night unfolded, the atmosphere in the café was electric, with laughter and excitement bouncing off the walls. Students conversed and danced, their faces lit up by the bright, colorful strobe lights. Countless students expressed their admiration for the event, commenting on the enchanting environment and fantastic music. From impromptu dance-offs and flash mobs to hype circles and heartfelt conversations under the shimmering decorations, the event was filled with unforgettable memories that Meridian students will cherish for years to come.

“The energy I felt during Homecoming was electric and very welcoming, as I felt that everyone brought good energy and personality, which I think is what Homecoming is all about,” shares Cyrus Kapadia, a 10th-grade attendee. “I think it was a safe environment, and it felt as though everyone had something to do, regardless of their background. For example, the conga line was something that everyone was included in and enjoyed.”

Elegant fabrics draped over the tables, and sparkly, rhinestoned, and feathered masks adorned the faces of the students, adding an air of mystery and sophistication. The rich tones of the dresses and suits, as well as the candlelight created by the inviting ambiance, invited the attendees to immerse themselves in the experience. Many guests embraced the theme, arriving with elaborate costumes that showcased their creativity, with some even having their masks perfectly match their outfits, enhancing the overall enchanting atmosphere of the night.

As the night drew to a close, the café was buzzing with the palpable energy of students reluctant to leave behind the experiences that had enveloped them for the past few hours. “Some key highlights were that there were so many mosh pits where everyone would sing and connect through music, and I think that was really cool because not too many schools have that—where you can just sing and dance with anyone and still feel comfortable,” mentions Cyrus Kapadia.

The echo of laughter and the remnants of joyous conversations filled the air, and nostalgia swept over the seniors as their final Homecoming ended. Students parted with beaming smiles and fond memories, holding dear the moments spent reconnecting with friends and celebrating the spirit of their school community.
