Founder’s Day this past week was full of life. On Sept. 20, local communities and students came together to have fun, participate in activities, raise money for their clubs, and spread awareness of their businesses.
During the day, students and parents could go to the cafeteria and buy tickets with cash. These tickets were then used to participate in club activities to help fundraise. For example, the lemonade and cookie stand charged 2 tickets for strawberry or regular lemonade and 1 ticket for an Oreo or M&M cookie.
There were a multitude of clubs and local organizations at the Founder’s Day event. Food trucks included Kona Ice, Taconmaye, and Crepe Crazy, while community groups such as the Williamson County Pet Shelter, Round Rock Library, and Waterloo also participated.
One of the most popular attractions was the lemonade stand’s special activity, where students could pay 3 tickets for the chance to pie Coach Grant if they made two successful bean bag tosses. “I enjoyed watching Coach Grant get pied,” said Cassidy Shelton, a 10th grader. Another favorite was the dunk tank, which returned for another year and had people lining up all the way to the food trucks. “I enjoyed watching Ms. Sherrill fall into the dunk tank multiple times,” said 10th grader Mia Cantu. Teachers such as Ms. Robledo, Mr. Ruiz, Ms. Ogo, and Coach Grant all took turns in the tank. Mini golf, another hit from last year, also made an appearance. While it was popular with younger kids, plenty of older students joined in too.
Throughout the day, music could be heard from the cafeteria patio, where the Meridian band and choir performed multiple times and drew large crowds from beginning to end. Other activities included face painting, balloon animals sold by the Women’s Empowerment Club, small mums created with the dance team, handmade headbands, keychains, and bracelets with Ms. Andrews, and even photo opportunities with Rory the mascot.
In conclusion, this year’s Founder’s Day was a big hit. Many students returned for their favorite activities from last year. “I was only excited for the Kona Ice,” Cassidy said. Mia added, “I especially liked the South Asian Student Union” for the food they shared. Students looked forward to the event and had a great time enjoying all the activities, food, and community participation.
