On Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, Meridian’s staff and parent volunteers took the court to face off against Meridian’s high school volleyball players in a friendly battle of generations.
Profe D set the tone early when she aced outside hitter Dashiell Morris twice in a row, proving she wasn’t rattled in the slightest. This came after she had shaken off a volleyball to the head during warmups — also courtesy of Morris. The crowd was quick to cheer both moments, perfectly capturing the playful spirit of the night.
The first matchup pitted the Boys Varsity Team against the adults. While the boys had the advantage of practice three times a week, the parents had experience — and a few surprising skills. Even with some extra help from their practice-only teammates, the boys dropped the first set but rallied to claim the second in a shortened 15-point game.
Next up were the Girls Varsity and JV teams, who had spent the week jokingly daring their coach, Nicole Krieg, to play against them. To their surprise (and delight), Coach Krieg showed up on the other side of the net — right next to her eighth-grade daughter, Kinley. “It wasn’t much different than practice,” Kinley said, “but it was fun scoring points against her that I can brag about at home.”
Other players also found themselves squaring off against familiar faces. Freshman Presley Nunez and sophomore Leilana Balta each lined up against their parents, who swapped their usual roles of cheerleaders for competitors. The game was close, with the parents edging out a 26-24 win after a ref’s call went their way. Junior Eden Linnartz summed it up best: “I was shocked by how good they were, and how much they were able to hustle. They had great sets and were able to dig really hard balls!”
By the end of the night, both the Boys and Girls teams had traded sets with the adults, leaving the “score” at one apiece. But the real win was the laughter, bragging rights, and memories made on the court. With so much energy and school spirit, one thing is certain — everyone is already looking forward to next year’s rematch.
