The day known as Founder’s Day is just around the corner on September 20—a celebration of the school and the families that came together to establish Meridian. Now, it is considered a “celebration of school spirit,” according to Ms. Chapel, the Events and Volunteer Coordinator for Meridian.
Founder’s Day was first celebrated on its 10th anniversary, five years ago, when it was originally considered a tribute to the families who worked to found Meridian, as well as their achievements for the school. Now, on its 15th anniversary, the celebration highlights the students, clubs, and the spirit of the Meridian Lions.
On Founder’s Day, school clubs and after-school programs will set up booths and stands in the middle school hallway, cafeteria, and on the soccer field. Activities, club fundraisers, and small samples or handouts can be found at these booths. A total of 18 school clubs are participating this year, and Ms. Chapel notes that “13 community booths signed up.” In addition, there will be “outdoor games and food trucks as well!” It’s also important to note that Choir and Band will be performing twice, just like last year’s celebration.
Other activities students look forward to include the dunk tank. Sophomore Greeshmi Mohanty says that of all the activities she tried last year, her favorite was “definitely the dunk tank,” where students or teachers volunteer to get dunked if others can hit the target. Last year’s Founder’s Day also featured archery, mini golf, and obstacle courses—all of which were a huge hit.
Founder’s Day brings both secondary and primary students together, giving younger students a preview of what they can look forward to in their secondary years. The celebration also helps spread awareness of clubs through participation and exciting activities. Greeshmi shares that Founder’s Day has “benefits for unofficial clubs getting the word out there” and reflects how the day celebrates the Meridian community.
This year’s Founder’s Day is sure to be a success, and we hope to see you there!
