Meridian is a community that works best when it has help from its members, especially, parents. This year, Meridian organized and hosted its very first: Parent “Pop Up” Volunteer Fair.
“Typically events take a couple of months to organize but this was a fresh idea. The goal was to get it done before all the big events start happening so we made it more of a “pop up” style and pulled it together in 2 weeks!” says Lynda Chapel, Meridian’s Community Coordinator and Liaison to the VIP Leadership Team, who played an integral role in the execution of the Fair.
The Parent Volunteer Fair took place in the Mays Cafe on Thursday September 4th. As parents entered they were welcomed with small door prizes and encouraged to interact with each other.
The event lasted for two and half hours, facilitating an open time and place for parents to make connections, learn how they can participate in school events, and why their help is important and influential to the functionality of Meridian.
Meridian’s Dean of Culture and key orchestrator of the Parent Volunteer Fair, Monique Swain explains “…parent involvement really strengthens our school community…We always appreciate help in fundraising, car line, during school events, and for special programs like the BSU Jamboree.”
“With this being a new event, we didn’t really have any expectations for attendance so were thrilled with the turnout,” Chapel reflects. “We were able to meet some new parents, chat with some current parents, and get people starting with signing up to help out. All in all it was a success!
When asked about plans for next year Swain remarks; “I’d love to see even more families attend and maybe include a few fun activities or student engagement to bring even more energy to the event.
