On Wednesday, Aug. 13, the Student Council held their first meeting to plan events for the 2025–26 school year in the OSC, the “Original School Café.” During the meeting, StuCo members discussed past events and brainstormed ideas for the upcoming year.
The discussion began with recurring annual events. Mrs. Gentillet, StuCo sponsor, said, “During the Student Government Retreat, we talked about upcoming events, like Homecoming and Founders’ Day.” She added, “We voted on the Homecoming Dance theme,” which has been a hot topic for 10th-grade students since the start of the year. Last year’s Casino Night was a big hit with 9th and 10th graders, who are eager to see what the new theme will be.
Class councils play a key role in coordinating events, encouraging participation, and helping make school activities memorable. This year, StuCo began planning events earlier than last year. Triyasri Potluri, a member of the class council, said, “We decided to start early so it doesn’t seem last-minute and is more exciting.” The Wednesday, Aug. 13, meeting focused on coordinating larger events, like Founders’ Day, which is an annual tradition.
Annual events such as Founders’ Day, Homecoming, pep rallies, door decorations, and even Staff Appreciation Day are being planned in advance. Large events, like Homecoming, require 4–6 planning meetings, while smaller events take 1–2 meetings. Triya, a 10th-grade representative, explained that the council is considering ways to improve staff appreciation week: “We want to make the staff feel comforted and appreciated by our school, especially compared to last year.” She also described how the council evaluates past events: “What comes first, then we plan it. Our first thought is, what did we do last year? Was it a success? How can we make it better than last year?” This helps ensure students are more engaged and events are enjoyable for everyone.
For this school year, the Homecoming theme has already been decided: Moonlight Masquerade, announced on the morning announcements on Aug. 20. Founders’ Day is also being planned, and several free-dress days are under consideration, with each class council sharing their input.
StuCo has reviewed and adjusted large events to balance activities students love, tolerate, or may dislike. This includes door decorating and charity events held throughout the year for field trips or parties. The Aug. 13 meeting provides insight into how the council organizes events and what students can expect throughout the school year.
