Spring Break was just around the corner—then it came and went just as quickly. Prior to the break, students were eager for some time off from stressful assignments and tests. Sophomores, in particular, were even more excited as they had the opportunity to present their Personal Projects, which they had worked hard on all year.
Personal Projects are a chance for students finishing the MYP program to complete a project that aligns with their personal interests. It allows them to expand their knowledge on a topic they’re passionate about while gaining lifelong skills essential for their futures.
This year, the Personal Project Expo was hosted on March 13, 2025. It was an all-day event held in the Meridian Mays Gym, where students displayed their final products for other students, teachers, and even parents to explore and learn about. Students showcased skills such as learning music, building drones, exercise plans, making books, to creating their own video games.
“Personal Project, for me, was a good learning experience because I got to learn more about how to better manage my time. At the same time, the expo was fun and enjoyable, and I would definitely do it again,” said sophomore Eden Linnartz.
While many students gave positive feedback, not everyone had the same experience. Some felt the project could have been more manageable.
“I feel as though the Personal Project was very rushed. A recommendation I have for the future is to give students more time so they don’t feel as stressed, while also having time for their regular schoolwork during the project,” said Aaron Salazar.
Overall, the Personal Project Expo was a major milestone for the sophomore class. It gave students a chance to showcase the hard work they had put in over the past five months and lifted a weight off their shoulders—bringing them one step closer to wrapping up their sophomore year!
