International week is a yearly tradition at Meridian World School in which we come together to celebrate our global community through class-led activities, door decorating, and the annual World Parade and Festival of Cultures. This year, International week will start on February 24th, and end with the World Parade on the 28th.
The World Parade is the most popular part of International week, with many students excited to see the countries represented at our school and the traditional clothing people wear. “I like seeing how many people represent India in the parade every year, it really shows the diversity in our school,” expressed senior Charley Edwards.
Beyond the World Parade, the Festival of Cultures offers students a way to further immerse themselves in world culture by talking to booth hosts, sampling food, trying games, and making crafts. “ I enjoy trying the cultural food so I can find new recipes to add to my repertoire,” stated senior Lincoln LaValle. The Festival of Cultures will also feature musical performances from the primary students, and a cultural exhibition for secondary students to showcase their talents.
International week has become a beloved tradition here at Meridian, as it allows for students to express themselves and their cultures in a safe environment. You don’t have to be worried about sticking out too much, that’s the point. Be who you are, and show pride in your culture.
