Junior year is considered to be the most high-stress time of high school, with SATs, extracurriculars at an all-time high, and college applications right around the corner. This is why Meridian provides many activities for juniors to relax and have fun, including the Junior Lock-In.
A favorite of Meridian traditions, the Junior Lock-In, allows juniors to spend a night in school and take a trip down memory lane by playing on the playground, engaging in old-school PE games like scooters and hide-and-seek, and much more.
Junior Madalyne Donnelly remarks on the night, “I was exhausted the day after, but it was a lot of fun.” Although many juniors fall asleep, there are still games and activities through the night like hide and seek in the dark and many sports.
The students were also able to go and play on the primary playground, and reminisce on the elementary years. “It’s a fun experience, I also feel like it’s a chance for us to be little kids again and run around and just go crazy especially since we’re getting older and won’t have that again once we graduate”, Donnelly remarks.
William Hjerten, a foreign exchange student from Sweden, also joined in on the fun. “My favorite thing was probably when we all played volleyball together in the gym and listened to some music”, Hjerten says. The Junior Lock-In allows students who may not be that close to get a chance to connect. “I think it’s a way students can get together and get to know each other”, Hjerten remarks when looking back on the exciting night.
Of course, the admin and Mrs. Holcombe played a huge part in organizing the whole night. “The admin had a lot of stuff planned for us so the night didn’t feel as long”, Hjerten says.
In all, the Junior Lock-In was a successful event and a night to remember.
