Meridian World School welcomed a new math teacher, Mr. Anjum, at the start of the spring semester. Originally from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mr. Anjum has lived in the United States for 15–20 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics and has been teaching for five years. Currently, he teaches Precalculus and Financial Literacy.
Students are eager to learn from Mr. Anjum and excited about the knowledge and experience he brings to Meridian. When asked about her thoughts on her new teacher, junior Tatiana Valencia shared, “Mr. Anjum looks like he would be a great teacher, and I’m looking forward to getting to know him better and having him as a teacher.”
Mr. Anjum’s passion for teaching began during his college years when he frequently tutored his peers. His talent for helping others grasp challenging concepts inspired him to pursue teaching as a career. Reflecting on what he loves about teaching, Mr. Anjum said, “I enjoy when students grasp difficult topics and see the progress of how they got there.”
Before Mr. Anjum joined the Meridian family, students had been wondering who would replace their previous math teacher, Mr. Ray Ciccolella (known as Mr. C), who left the school at the end of 2024. Mr. C’s departure saddened many students, as he was widely regarded as one of the best math teachers they’d ever had. Rabia Ghanchi, a junior, reflected on her time in Mr. C’s class, saying, “He was by far the best math teacher I’ve ever had, and he made me enjoy math again. He was so funny, engaging with the class more as a friend than just a teacher.”
Though students will miss Mr. C, they are optimistic about the semester ahead with Mr. Anjum at the helm. His dedication to teaching and passion for helping students succeed has already made a positive impression, and many are excited to see what he will bring to their math education
